Abstract

|
We analysed 18, 120 patients who admitted to the ICU, Yonsei University College of Medicine with ventilator support.
1) Mortality was 12.3% in 1981. It decreased to less than 7% after that time, and increased to 8.1% in 1991.
2) Average duration of ICU stay was 5.9 days. It increased from 4.6 days, 1981 to 7.2 days, 1991. Mortality was most in patients who stayed in ICU for less than 2 days.
3) The number of patients was most in the age of less than 10 year-old and mortality was 10.0%, most in that age group.
4) The number of patients was 40.1% and most in Cardiothoracic department. Mortality was lowest in the patients of Cardiothoracic department, and highest in the patients of Pediatric department.
5) The ICU patients were supported with ventilator in 52% of ICU patients and average duration of ventilatory support is 4.2 days.
